Gesso’s, compo’s and red/yellow bole is used for restoring antique frames. Working from recipes and using techniques which are hundreds of years old. There are many stages of frame restoration, depending on the level of deterioration of the frame.
The key to restoration is only to carry out what is essential and to re-use as many of the original pieces as possible.
The goal to restoring a beautiful antique frame is to look as though nothing has been done!
